That Fatal Kiss by Mina Lobo

For everyone who thought I was back from my semi-blogging hiatus, well I'm not. I'm doing a lot of traveling and internet time is scarce, especially when I'm sleeping confined to a  Mayan hammock and forced to drink fruity cocktails work my fingers to the bone. Ahem, pictures on Suday's post.  

Anyway, another good blogging buddy of mine Mina Lobo,  is revealing the cover of her book, That Fatal Kiss and I wanted to give her a shout out. Actually, the reveal was a few days ago and I'm just super late to the party. Can I blame it on the time zone? The Mojitos? Give me a second, I'll come up with something else . . .

Mina Lobo has long held a passion for Greek mythology. The story of the goddess Persephone's marriage-by-kidnap to Hades, Lord of the Underworld, has particularly fascinated her, and thus came about Mina's debut novel, That Fatal Kiss. Coming September 2013, the revisionist tale features a fiery and noble heroine, a handsome and broody hero, and some heated, earth-shakin' lovin'!

Given Mina's self-professed neurotic nature, it took her and cover artist Steven Novak a few go-arounds before settling on the cover design for That Fatal Kiss. It had to be curiously compelling, slightly spooky, and yet super sexy—and so it is!

The Book:

Feared by mortals for his inexorable power, and loathed by his fellow Greek gods for the same, Hades rules the Underworld alone. A stark eternity looms before him until he discovers Persephone. Struck by the youthful goddess’ beauty, kindness, and spirit, he must have her. But Hades believes Persephone could never love him, and so he conspires with his powerful brother, Zeus, to take her by force.

Persephone too seeks a mate but her possessive mother, the goddess Demeter, frustrates her husband hunting. Then Hades abducts Persephone, tearing her away from the Upperworld she loves to reign with him in the dank depths below. Though outraged, Persephone cannot deny the desire ignited within her by the dark lord’s touch. And even as she hopes that Demeter will unearth her, Persephone aches to surrender to the heat in Hades’ immortal soul.

The Teaser:

“Enough,” Hades said, closing the distance between them. “I have taken you with your father’s consent, as custom allows. You are in my kingdom, under my rule, and if you have any care for your continued well-being, you will get into my bed. Now.” And with the removal of the pins that held together the black cloth about his waist, he stood naked before her.

The anger warming Persephone clashed with another fire that roared to life within her. She choked on a breath and turned her face from him. “Be warned; I will resist you with the full force of my being, through violent means, if necessary.”

His large, unyielding hands encircled the soft flesh of her upper arms as he said, “If you must. Though your surrender to me would prove more satisfying to us both.”

The Author:

Mina Lobo has a lot of Scorpio action going on in her natal chart, which makes for a rather sybaritic and lust-driven Sagittarian. She aims for a wildly successful future as a writer of dark and whimsical romance while dodging the slings and arrows of her outrageous teenaged son, who's buggered off to college (hence the "Lite" in her Twitter handle, below). She enjoys comedic horror and alt rock, goth, & new wave music, as well as quality Belgian chocolates.

Félicite Found by Julia King

1. Female main character

2. Petite girl with long blond hair and aqua blue eyes glittered with diamond-like flecks around the edges. Pretty much she will stop you dead in your tracks by her gorgeous looks

3. Amnesiac. She is conflicted, torn, a bit mysterious but tender and loving, especially with Pierre.

4. To remember who she is and keep Pierre in her life (there’s more to this but you’ll have to read it to find out more)

5. Apple Pie or a Big Mac, maybe…

Pierre Rousseaux

1. Male main character

2. Tall, dark and handsome fits the bill. Ok, let’s just admit it, he’s a brown haired hottie!

3. He has probably the IQ of Einstein. He’s humble to the bone and pretty reserved with his emotions, guarded would be a good adjective (read the book to find out why…). He’s an amazing son. He’d be there to help anyone in a heartbeat.

4. To have a future as a police officer and actually have a family

5. Nothing his mom would cook. Pretty much anything else would tickle his taste buds. He wouldn’t pass up some Nutella on a croissant.

6. Scrubs that are way too small for him or a tiny pink jacket. *chuckles*

Hélène Rousseaux

1. Pierre’s Mother

2. Petite long, brown haired woman. She’s a pretty woman, for sure

3. Nice and willing to help others. Struggles with depression. She is a loving and devoted mother

4. To be a curator at Musée du Louvre, but for the most part, she wants to be a good mother to her son despite her issues

5. The first lunch she ate with her late husband

6. Something professional she would wear to visit an art gallery

Luc Broussard

1. Pierre’s best friend

2. Tall but slender blond haired boy, may have a zit or two

3. Class clown and friendly with the girls. He is smart, though but just doesn’t want to show it off. He’s got a reputation to uphold, ya know

4. To be the wizard of the all knowing

5. Anything that fits in his mouth (or doesn’t, for that matter)

6. His held-together-by-tape shoes


Madame Rose

1. Next door neighbor and surrogate mother/grandmother

2. Short and petite grey haired woman

3. Everything a grandmother would be—sweet, loving, and giving. She’s got pep to her clumsy step. Be careful, she might pinch your cheek

4. For her loved ones to be happy. She wouldn’t mind being with her late husband again

5. A home cooked meal accompanied with Pierre, Hélène, and Félicité

6. A pink skirt suit with matching high heels and lipstick will work beautifully
