B for BALNEOLOGY

Balneology (the short version) is the study of baths and bathing, particularly therapeutic bathing (wikipedia)

You know what I’m thinking?
Career change! :D

The slightly longer version--balneotherapy (from Latin: balneum, "bath") is described as the treatment of disease by bathing, usually practiced at spas. It’s similar to another field of study called hydrotherapy. Balneotherapy may involve the following elements for treatment:

· Hot or cold water
· Massage through moving water
· Relaxation or stimulation
· The use of mineral waters rich in elements such as silica, sulfur, selenium and radium, which are absorbed through the skin
· The use of medicinal clays known as ‘fangotherapy’

Any Balneologists need test subjects? (;

Other bitchin' B_ology words to ponder:

Bolgology: The science of blogging!

Batology:

Now before you get all excited, no this is not the study of The Batman, that would be Batmanology, of which I would be an active member. Batology is actually the study of brambles, the plants in the genus Rubus which includes blackberries and raspberries.
Cocktail anyone?

:D

Yeah, you could definitely have a worse job than studying therapeutic baths! :)

  2. I didn't know there was a science to blogging!

Balneology would be a good name for a fancy spa tucked away at some resort.

  3. Batology sounds like a great study (Now, I'm getting hungry) Although Batmanology would be kind of fun... maybe a bit wierd ;)

  8. I know lots of folk who are balneophobic... or would that be hydrophobic? Not sure...
All I know is they DON'T like to bath.
Couldn't blogolology be a better word for the science of blogging? :)

  32. The city of Bath, England would be famous for Balneology. It is just a coincidence that my first 2 posts were about Austen, quite a coincidence that you are all about therapeutic baths today.

  48. One should always keep abreast of Batology, Elise. The early show was a hoot.

  49. So I was right when I first read balneology. That sounds like a great job, hahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  50. "fangotherapy" sounds like something out of a vampire novel :) I'm totally going to have to look up the etiology of that one. Great pick on a word--I could easily become a professional balneologist!

  51. And not the first time "I'm Batman" was quoted on that show. Sheldon said the same thing near the end of the second season's first show. It's always funny.

  52. Batology suddeny became boring. I'd rather study about baths. Give me some Batman (not Sheldon's version) any day.

  53. To quote Katniss Everdeen,
