I've Done Something Crazy: NaNoWriMo

Ok, I've gone and done something dumb. I know, it's a regular thing with me these days...

After several years of avoiding the challenge, I've signed up for NaNoWriMo and beer wasn't even involved. I know damn well I don't have the time to write daily, plus I've got a trip planned around the 11th and an Ultimate tournament at the end of the month. Plus, I still don't have a solid outline finished and the plot keeps shifting and changing in my head every 7.8 minutes.

However, I'm thinking if I survive the next 30 days, (all bets are on) I'll certainly have a heaping pile of shit pretty good first draft and surely better writing habits. I'm really trying to kick the Don't-edit-as-you-go, habit and just WRITE THE DAMN THING.

Anyway, I've been a pretty terrible blogger these past few months, I keep getting curve balls thrown at me but heck, that's life. However, I'm going to try and give regular updates during the next 30 days which may or may not include pictures. ;) For example, here is my before or Pre-NaNo picture, along with my writing buddy, Comet. (Her sister Galaxy was building a sand castle in the box when this picture was taken. ;)

For those of you not doing NaNo, please hold me,  I hope you have a productive month and a fun and safe Halloween (if you're celebrating). We like to celebrate Halloween (candy anyone?!). Unfortunately, Halloween isn't a big thing over here and most folks don't even go out trick or treating. I know, it's sad. However, we are invited to a Halloween party Friday night (my FIRST ever Halloween party!). My daughter is dressing up as a scary fairy, my son as Mikey the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and I'm going to try and paint a sugar skull on my face and sport some wild purple hair. Scary for sure!

Anyway, having a blast Friday night is definitely on my list of things to do. In fact, it's the only thing on my list for Friday because I know what's coming the following day....I have an English class to teach. Oh and yeah...... it's also the start of Writing-My-Ass-Off-NaNoWRITING MONTH!

See you all for my next update!

*******

Do you guys celebrate Halloween? What's your favorite costume and/or what's your costume this year? And are you crazy enough to do NaNo this year too?

  1. Yay! I'm sure you'll knock it out of the park.....or, at least, throw it over the wall :D Either way, best of luck and if you want a buddy on the NaNo site, look me up. My id is mmeans68

If I can do it, I know you can!

  2. Good luck! I have never yet signed up for NaNo because it just doesn't fit my creative style, but I applaud everyone who can get the words down so fast!

    Good luck with the party.
And Comet is cute. (Thanks for not taking a picture of Galaxy in the box though.)

  5. I'm NaNo'ing as well, despite editing three books, moving house and importing 5000 pairs of shoes. My user name is iceangel if you want to buddy up. :-)

  7. Best of luck! I think it's a great way to jumpstart a project and get your ass in the chair for writing work. You can't have been any worse of a blogger than I've been. Now start limbering up those fingers, you crazy cat lady, and go, go, go! :)

  8. Too many curve balls for me this year. I had hoped to get some major writing done next month but right now I'll be happy to just get out a query or two. I'm super excited for you though, and hope it goes well. Keep us updated. Your posts will be great motivation for me.

  10. I hope you have fun with NaNo. It will kick that habit for you or nothing will.

I love how Comet looks like she's barely tolerating the selfie.

  11. Holding you and supporting you, Elise! Go girl. :)

Just have fun with it and if you don't complete due to time constraints, at least you have a partial product that you can walk away with, but seriously....I think you will complete the challenge!!! :D

  12. Not doing NaNo but I do like dressing up for Halloween and usually go as a zombie. But no one ever comes to my house trick or treating as it's down a long dark road with no streetlights. Which means I get to buy a bunch of candy (just in case) and then eat it all afterward :)

    Cute kitty!

  13. Good luck! I can't do the regular November NaNo because I can't write 50k words in one month! I don't even want to. I hope it is really fun for you, though.

  14. Yay! I'll be cheering you on from the NaNo pit. I think it's totally possible to have a life AND do NaNo. Best of luck! ^_^

Have fun at your party! I'm going to a gathering, but I haven't decided what I'm wearing yet.

  17. Best of luck, Elise!!! LOVE that photo BTW!

P.S. I had sent you a friend request on FB but then it dawned on me that you likely didn't know it was me :)

  18. Have a wonderful Halloween, and best of luck with NaNo! I'm sure you'll be great! November always sucks for me, time-wise, and there's no way I'd get it done. But I love watching everyone else pull off amazing things :)

  19. Good luck! I've never officially done NaNo, but I've started a few books during November. I thought it wouldn't be realistic, since I always write over 50,000 words (often well above that), but then I saw they have a message board for people aiming to write 100K, 250K, 300K, and even a million words during November.

  20. You're clearly crazed but I bet lubricating with beer every day in November will help with your writing process. I think the trick's just knowing how much you can chug and still manage coherent sentences. ;-)

I am so totally looking forward to pics of your scary fairy! Man, I don't remember the last time I properly celebrated Halloween...on the other hand, for me, every day is Halloween. :-)

  21. Kudos to you, young Elise - mad as a hatter, you are, but who am I to comment? I think you are slowly turning French.

    1. Your comment sounds like a modified 7 - 7 -7 - 9 haiku! :)
I don't know if I'm turning more French, but I think you're right about me being mad *le sigh* Though you seemed to have missed all that grey hair I'm sprouting.... :D
