IWSG: This is the time when I go a little looney-toons

After being closed for winter, our B&B has reopened for spring and summer. This is a good thing but also a mega time-suck, of the black hole variety. I try to get some writing done, but it's really hard and I'm finding myself giving into my old demons that have me writing well into the night, which is very, very bad.

Plus, I'm backed up with the laundry, the house is a disaster (though that's not much different than normal), the kids are on vacation, and this is my living room... it's been like this for like the last 4 days. And to be honest it'll probably stay like that for another 6. weeks. *hangs head in shame.

So I'm stuck pondering the following:

How in the figure-skating Hell am I to find time to write?

How?

TELL ME HOW!!!

I don't even have time to put some colors on!

The life of a disorganized, frazzle-brained writer is so ....

Oh look. Dinner is ready.

Happy IWSG day and A-Zing to all participating, I miss you all....
gotta go for now!!!!

  1. Hey Elise! Sounds like snagging ten minutes here and there is your best bet.
The kids will be happy to see their fort is still there when they return though...

  2. If you don't bother with shoes you might gain another five minutes at either end of the day...

  3. The kids will enjoy the forts for 6 weeks. A little here and there is best for your lair

  4. Don't houses all look like that when kids live there? Ours did.

  5. Looks like a fun place to live - you could always dive into the kids fort and tie the opening shut, so you can write in peace :)Nobody would ever guess you're in there :)

  6. It sounds to me like you need a vacation from writing until the B&B closes. Sounds awful, I know, but why drive yourself crazy trying to write when it's nearly impossible to do any writing? Enjoy your B&B life while it lasts. You can always keep a little notebook on you and jot down notes about whatever crosses your mind. It'll probably add up to quite a lot by the end of the summer.

  7. I won't let our house become a complete wreck, but things have fallen behind lately. It's funny, but I used to go to people's houses who had kids and see the toys everywhere and wonder, "How can you live like that?" Now I look at the cat toys strung from one end of the house to the other, plus the two dozen kitty beds everywhere, and think, "Oh, that's how." LOL

  8. Maybe you should taking a writing hiatus while the B&B is open. I used to have to do that from time to time at my day job because my hours would triple, and I just didn't have time. It made me cranky, but it always felt good when I got to go back to it.

My house is generally towing that disaster-area line, and I don't even have any kids. Hang in there.

  9. It stinks that you can't find time to write. I wish I knew what to do but I can barely find time to write myself!

  10. Jiffy Pop for dinner! Yum! I'd say life is more colorful when you're too busy to keep things in order? Gotta look at the bright side until you have more time.

  11. That's exactly how I looked when my son had two weeks off for his spring break. Good luck! And, mmm, dinner...

  12. It will pass, and you'll wonder how it happened so fast. In the meantime, store up some ideas and write them later. Good luck.

  13. Looks like you have discovered a 'jungle' in your living room, dear girl - beware: if you think you hear thunder it may well be a bulldozer outside!

As for your old demons returning - welcome them with open arms, feed them lots and then when they fall asleep, with bellies full, place them in a cage and set them to working for you upon waking :)

Failing that, just keep taking the meds ;)

I wish you the best of fortitude in your ongoing quest, my dear one.

  14. Yup. I know how you're feeling.

At the moment, I'm managing to write by sacrificing the idea of "free time". But at some point, I'm going to have to take time off or I'm going to crack.

  15. To tell you the truth your living room looks like fun. My kids would love that. This is a little stumbling block called life as you know it. These inconveniences will past and a good story will pop into your head. Take a break, relax and enjoy the mayhem.

  16. Elise, when I was a kid forts meant everything to me and my three siblings. Enjoy while you can!
