This is a t-shirt I brought back from the States for my 3 year old son. My daughter (who is 6) asked me "Where's Black Widow?" To which I stuttered a ridiculous response regarding t-shirt space and followed it up with a "maybe they forgot?" I know, I'm a parenting genius.
With the huge splash this movie recently made at the box office, I wondered if leaving out Black Widow really affects t-shirt sales. Because that's what this is really about, the fear boys won't want to wear a t-shirt that features a female superhero in a male dominated superhero group. But does that line of thinking really reflect today’s 3 year olds? Do little boys really refuse to wear t-shirts that have a girl somewhere on it? Enough to affect sales?
Anyway, all that being said, I can't wait to see this movie.
I keep hearing the movie is AWESOME :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard the same thing!
DeleteI think the tee-shirt creators are more concerned with keeping the lines between the sexes intact. It they start boys and girls out young, it's better for their pocketbook. It's a shame. :)
ReplyDeleteI understand what your saying and I think it's a shame too. My daughter who likes Barbies and My Little Ponies, also likes superheroes like the Avengers and The Justice League.
DeleteTry finding a Black Widow figure. My girls want one, and I did see that they make them, but they aren't in stores and Black Widow's not featured as an option on the box. It's a shame that toys are so sexist.
ReplyDeleteBut the movie was great, and Black Widow kicked butt. ;-)
It is a shame because I believe they would sell. Maybe I could make a Black Widow figure using an old Barbie and stitch together an outfit....(:
DeleteIt's all about marketing and sales at the end of the day... sad but true!
ReplyDeleteWhat do 3 year olds REALLY know about "male dominated superhero groups" and such? Only what the adults impart...
I know my 3 year old would not think less of the t-shirt if Black Widow was on it. Apparently, some adults do.
DeleteKids are so darn smart these day, it's scary. My husband has seen Avengers now 3 x. THREE TIMES! Ridiculous, I know. Have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteAHHHHHHH! Makes me want to see this even MORE! I have to wait a few more weeks before it's Mother's Day over here, but have a great time with the kids!! (:
DeleteI hear this movie is so awesome. I really need to see it.
ReplyDeleteIt's all marketing. I'm sure they have a shirt with black widow on it. Here's one I found with a simple internet shirt:

For a 3 year old?
DeleteI'm sure they have a few Black Widow shirts out there. I've also found some for adults. My point was why exclude her from the group of superheros.
DeleteI haven't seen the Avengers yet, but my daughter has. She is at Uni working on a degree in 3D Animation, she was really impressed! I am off to see Dark Shadows this afternoon, just love Johnny Depp!
ReplyDeleteI watched it, and despite Black widow, this is unreservedly a Boy movie!
ReplyDeleteGHHHHHH! No such thing!
DeleteI'm still going to watch it AND like it, so there. (;
